Our take
Launched in June 2026, the Fuse X1 takes the powder workflow Formlabs built on the Fuse 1+ and scales it to true industrial size. The 330 x 330 x 565 mm build chamber holds 61.5 liters of nesting space, and a 120 W fiber laser keeps cycle times competitive — Formlabs positions it with 30%+ packing density and roughly 50% lower part cost than legacy industrial SLS machines that cost multiples of its $84,999 starting price. Layer thickness stays at the familiar 110 microns of the Fuse line, so part quality matches the benchtop machines — just far more of it per build. Early coverage highlights easier maintenance and cleaner powder paths than classic industrial SLS boxes. This is a production tool, not a prosumer toy: industrial power, service plans and post-processing infrastructure belong in the budget. For shops outgrowing benchtop SLS volume, it is the most accessible path to industrial-scale powder printing.
Pros
- 61.5 L build volume — 330 x 330 x 565 mm parts in a single print
- 120 W fiber laser engineered for production throughput
- Formlabs ecosystem at scale: powders, software, service plans
- Reported ~50% lower part cost than legacy industrial SLS
Cons
- $84,999 before service plans and post-processing gear
- Industrial power and facility requirements
- Overkill for prototyping volumes
Verdict
The natural next step for operations that have outgrown benchtop SLS — industrial volume with the polish of the Formlabs ecosystem.
